Most IBD content online falls into two camps. Clinical charity pages that read like a leaflet, or content farms churning out “10 foods that heal your gut.” Neither one sounds like a person who’s actually lived it.

That’s the gap Gut Honest fills. Everything here is first-hand - what the diagnosis actually felt like, the things the doctors didn’t tell me, the false dawns, and the slow business of learning my own body. It’s honest, sometimes uncomfortably so, because that’s the version that actually helps.

What I won’t do

I won’t tell you what to eat. Everyone’s IBD is different, and what settles one person’s gut can wreck another’s. Anyone selling you a universal diet is selling you something. Instead I write about the parts that are universal - tracking your own patterns, advocating for yourself with your team, and the practical UK stuff around work, travel, insurance and your rights.

The one rule

None of this is medical advice, and it never will be. It’s lived experience, shared so you feel less alone and better equipped to have the right conversations with the people actually treating you. Always speak to your own GP, consultant, or IBD team.
